Don’t you hate it when you go to a web page on a mobile browser and the mobile site doesn’t have the information you need? Well, you can change your settings so the web page thinks you’re viewing the page from a desktop computer. To do this it means changing your User Agent String (UAString) on your mobile device. Here are the steps. (Note that I’m using a Nexus One and the settings may vary per device.)
- Open the Android web browser.
- In the address bar, erase the ‘http://www.’ type ‘about:debug‘ and click Go. No page will load and you may or may not get a pop-up message ‘Debug mode’.
- Choose Menu > More > Settings in the browser and scroll to the bottom of the list, you should see a new group of options under the ‘Debug’ heading.
- When you select ‘UAString’ (the last setting) you have the option of having your browser to identify itself as Android, Desktop or iPhone. Select desktop to view web pages as if you’re on a desktop computer.
