I thought that with the release of Flash Professional CS4 it was the easiest time ever to get into Flash. And I was right. But with the release of Flash Professional CS5 it’s even EASIER. You can actually create an entire web site in Flash without writing code! You can import files from InDesign and reflow text just as easily. In fact, that’s the first feature I’d like to talk about.
New Text Engine
Anyone with experience with type in Flash has realized that the text options leave something to be desired if you’re comparing it to a high powered print program like InDesign. So wouldn’t it be great if Flash had a lot of the same text controls? Well now it does! For instance, if you wanted to reflow text to another text box you can do that. Thread together as many as you want. Working on multi-lingual projects? Well you can reflow text right to left, bottom to top. Any direction you want. But the easiest way to compare static text (which is still available in Flash CS5) with the Text Layout Framework (TLF) is to compare the Properties panels.
